Georgie Nikolaidis (recent college graduate):

My name is Georgie Nikolaidis and we moved from Greece after my mom married my step-dad. He’s American. And my parents discovered I was blind when I was six months old.

I always when I was little had this fear of just getting around and that’s one thing I feel that I have come a long way with.

The religion that my family discovered when I was in 6th grade has really helped me a lot. It’s Christian Science.

My goal is to get to complete healing of blindness. But right now I am going through as far as I can using my faith, my prayer, my study to make smaller steps; the idea that I can in my own way see.

When I went to Principia (College) I was afraid of the idea of getting around by myself outside ‘cause I felt like it was really open, how am I going to do it, and it’s not easy to tell the paths. Even around the school inside I just… I felt like I’m just going to get lost. I always had people helping me around. I always was clinging to someone to help me around all the time. One thing I was slowly able to do was to get around. I still have some trouble crossing busy streets per se but I am able to get around and to know that this is something I, I am able to do, and it’s not something I have to be scared of, whatever.

I majored in mass communication, and I used to have a radio show at Principia. I am definitely a people person.

Just look at how you can use what you have; addressing those needs early on is definitely really important.
